CARDS SCM-C009B04:
Implementation of ECTS at Universities
in Serbia |
|
SCM project C009B04 “Implementation of ECTS at universities
in Serbia” was submitted in October 2004 (15 October 2004)
and approved in April 2005.
|
The main goal of this one-year
project is to initiate a comprehensive implementation of one
of the most important principles of the Bologna process, the
European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) at universities in
Serbia. In order to achieve this main objective, there are
varius interim goals that have been presented in a number
of stages within this project: |
- |
Establishment of ECTS
coordinator teams and networks among Serbian universities
involved in the project, with the support of the Ministry
of Education and Sports of the Republic of Serbia |
- |
Training of ECTS coordinators |
- |
Analysis of current study programmes
based on ECTS principles and gaining experience of credit
system application in the local environment |
- |
Identification of the challenges
and chances that the mechanism of ECTS brings into the
system of higher education in Serbia |
- |
Development of ECTS promotional strategy
and strategy of ECTS implementation at universities
in Serbia |
- |
Exchange of “know-how” in the field of ECTS implementation |
- |
Promotion of ECTS principles among
wider public by making all stekeholders (professors,
students and administrative staff) more involved and
better informed about the significance, necessity and
benefits of ECTS implementation |
- |
Initiation of long-term activities
that would enable ECTS assistance and consultancy in
concrete cases regarding the application of ECTS within
study programmes. |
|
The above-mentioned
objectives would significantly contribute to the strenghtening
and revitalization of the national strategy for Bologna process
realization, which would place Serbia in the European Area
of Higher Education. In this process, ECTS application plays
a very important role, since it is a mechanism that will greatly
contribute to the revision and harmonization of curricula
according to European trends, as well as identification of
their core elements, increase of student mobility and recognition
of degrees, comparison of student work-load and their knowledge
aquired at European universities. |
ECTS application
in Serbia has just begun at certain universities, that is
at some university departments, which represents a positive
improvement towards integration of Serbia into the European
Area of Higher Education. Therefore it was necessary to make
a detailed analyis of what has been done in the area of ECTS
application in higher education at universities in Serbia
up to that moment, so as to get an overview of current state
and, depending on it, to work out a strategy for ECTS promotion
among teaching and non-teaching staff and students, as well
as its implementation at all departments and faculties. |
